Emilia Clarke has rocketed to stardom in her turn as the young queen Danaerys Targaryen. At age 24 when the series first aired, Clarke was far older than her literary counterpart, who is 13 at the beginning of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin's
series of fantasy novels. (The entire series is cast too old, but contemporary audiences aren't used to 30-somethings being considered middle-aged.)
