It's rare in entertainment to find actual teenagers playing teenage roles. Many young actors simply don't have the name recognition many production companies look for to drive audiences to their films. Some movies, such as the Harry Potter franchise, are rare exceptions. Here's a look at ten celebrities who were a bit long in the tooth for their teenage roles.

Emilia Clarke has rocketed to stardom in her turn as the young queen Danaerys Targaryen. At age 24 when the series first aired, Clarke was far older than her literary counterpart, who is 13 at the beginning of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin's series of fantasy novels. (The entire series is cast too old, but contemporary audiences aren't used to 30-somethings being considered middle-aged.)
