Dan Aykroyd has been sworn in as a Mississippi Sheriff's Deputy.

The Canadian 'Blues Brothers' star approached Hinds County Sheriff Department's reserve unit about joining while currently filming 'Get on Up' - about late singer James Brown, in which he plays the late singer's manger, Ben Bart - in the area.

At his swearing in ceremony, Dan said: "It's an honor to join these ranks today. I understand the challenges that law enforcement face in today's world."

He also praised Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis - who presided over the ceremony, wearing a sharp brown suit and trilby hat - for his dress sense.

According to The Clarion Ledger newspaper, he added: "I don't think there's a better dressed sheriff in the United States.

"This man is sure styling, and he backs it up with intelligence, integrity and real care for his personnel."

Dan is no stranger to working with law enforcement authorities, and reportedly working for two agencies in Louisiana before he became famous.

The 'Ghostbusters' actor promised he would use his celebrity to help boost the profile of the department, saying: "I am able to go all over the world now and talk up this county, talk up this state and talk up the people of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department."

He added he will also be fundraising, as some units in the department are so short of money they "can't even afford ammunition for practice".
