Despite having a good run, "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" was dying a slow death. In its fourth season, the series wrapped up several big storylines, including the long-awaited marriage of Lois Lane and Clark Kent. The fourth season ended with a cliffhanger where Lois and Clark found an infant in Clark's old bassinet, along with a note that claimed the child belonged to them. This was the storyline that was to jump start the show's fifth season, but it was not meant to be. Declining ratings forced ABC to pull the plug on the series, thus never fully explaining the mystery child. The show's Executive Producer Brad Buckner later revealed that the baby was Kryptonian royalty and that the child would have grown up rapidly and needed to learn to use their powers responsibly.
