Colonel Henry Blake, a mainstay character, was discharged from his tour on the third season finale. While fans were sad to lose a favorite character, it was a pleasant sendoff; Blake was returning home to be with his wife and children. What made his death so heartbreaking was how fans learned about it. After spending the summer in a false bubble believing Blake was home, the public's perception was shattered when, at the beginning of the fourth season, they learned Blake died when his plane was shot down after takeoff.
