Hi, I'm Kira. I was born in the Midwest in the '80s with a love of pop culture! I'm all grown up now, and I still live in the Midwest and still love pop culture. I'm just fortunate enough to be able to write about it here. In my blog, you'll find some humor, a lot of snark, and a love for all things celebrity, but don't worry, I'm not too serious here. I love mocking them too! Stay tuned! Twitter: @KiraJW

Justin Timberlake’s 'The 20/20 Experience' Review: Sonic Shock And Awe

March 18th, 2013 5:00pm EDT
The 20/20 Experience
It's been seven years since boybander-turned-superstar Justin Timberlake released his last album, and jammed sexy back into the cultural lexicon.  His new LP drops on March 19, so the biggest questions to be asked upon listening are obvious:  Is it worth the wait? Does it live up to the hype?  The answer is just as clear:  YES.  The aptly named "The 20/20 Experience" is sonic Shock and Awe, a dazzling barrage of traditional R&B and contemporary swagger, thanks to uber-producer Timbaland’s mad-scientist production.

Experience is Timberlake's best album yet.  The cohesive compilation is com...

'Supernatural' Recap: 'Cause We're Worth It

February 28th, 2013 11:30am EST
Supernatural -- Remember The Titans
I must confess that I am a sucker for Greek mythology, and I was a fangirl of those campy, and now classic ‘90s television series, “Hercules: The Legendary Journey” and “Xena: Warrior Princess,” so I was delighted when the brothers Winchester decided to tackle Mt. Olympus.

Grab your trusty Chakram, and let’s dive in, shall we?

The Case

The cold open finds a treasure of society drunkenly guzzling beer as he speeds down a windy, dark road, heedless of the man walking on the shoulder.  It's a direct hit and run.  If the man didn't die on impact, he definitely expired during frigid winter ...

'Golden Boy' Review: More Bite Than Bark

February 27th, 2013 10:10am EST
Golden Boy
CBS’s mid-season show, “Golden Boy,” a crime drama about a brash cop's turbulent journey to become the youngest police commissioner in New York City history, doesn’t reinvent the shield, but it does offer more promise than puffery.

This is not another paint-by-numbers procedural that CBS has mass-produced for the past decade. “Golden Boy” follows the impressive career of Walter Clark, played with a beguiling intensity by Theo James.  After a heroic firefight that saves dozens of lives, Clark is promoted to homicide detective, and has to navigate the murky politics of police work, especia...

'Supernatural' 8x15 Recap: Unbreakable Bond

February 21st, 2013 10:35am EST
Supernatural
Last week’s excellent installment of “Supernatural” not only set the bar to skyscraper levels for the rest of the season, but also prompted a myriad of questions and musings that haunted me all week:  What if Kevin got the translation wrong since the he only has half of the tablet?  With one trial down, how hard would the remaining tests be?  What exactly was that glowing light that traveled up Sam’s arm at the end of last week’s episode?  Was it a good thing?

“Man’s Best Friend With Benefits,” which started off stiltingly, but finished with a angst-filled bang, gave a resounding and terr...

‘Supernatural’ Recap: The Brave And The Beautiful

February 14th, 2013 9:24am EST
Supernatural
You can keep the overpriced roses and forego the horrendous Nicholas Sparks’ movie, because there’s not much more I’d want to do than spend time with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles’ Sam and Dean Winchester on Valentine’s Day.

“Trial And Error” was the triumphant return to what “Supernatural” ultimately is: an addicting rollercoaster ride that starts campy, peaks at heart-wrenching and finishes with a little mystery and a lot of feels.   It’s a ride I’ve been on for nearly seven years, and it never gets old.  The CW has wisely renewed the show for a remarkable ninth season, so I’m all b...

The CW Renews 'The Vampire Diaries,' 'Supernatural' and 'Arrow'

February 12th, 2013 11:30am EST
The Vampire Diaries
Sci-fi is the new black! The CW has renewed its strongest series in the fangtastic “The Vampire Diaries,” the superhero saga “Arrow,” and the downright demonic “Supernatural,” TVLine.com reports.

Diaries’ renewal for a fifth season was the safest best as it is the network's most-watched show, and a spin-off called “The Originals” slated to air in April.

“Arrow,” the action-packed freshman drama based on DC Comics' Green Arrow, was an instant hit, thanks to the talents of star Stephen Amell and those gratuitous work-out sequences.

“Supernatural,” starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles...

'Supernatural' Recap: Get Your Geek On

February 7th, 2013 10:20am EST
Supernatural
This week’s episode, aptly titled “Everybody Hates Hilter,” tackles the bleak fodder that is World War II.  Of course, this being “Supernatural” and an episode penned by the deliciously weird Ben Edlund, it managed to pack some belly laughs and golden moments to lighten up fare stemming from one of the darkest moments in history.

After I initially watched the episode, I honestly was clueless as to what it was about or even what had happened.  This was a windy, exposition-heavy episode that spanned decades, families and unearthed yet another near-extinct secret society.  I watched it again...

Five Ways 'Hawaii Five-0' Got Awesome Again

February 4th, 2013 2:30pm EST
hawaii five-0
It's not uncommon for television shows, especially one's that are incredibly popular in their first season, to experience a bit of a sophomore slump.  CBS's bikinis and bombshells remake of "Hawaii Five-0" experienced creative backslide in its second season after a blockbuster debut.  Thankfully, it wasn't a "Heroes"-esque decline and there have been major strides this season to regain the high-octane crime drama it once was.  Here are the five ways "Hawaii Five-0" got awesome again, and reattained its guilty-pleasure status.

It's not business, it's personal.  Like the classic action...

'Supernatural' Recap: Back To The Future

January 31st, 2013 10:47am EST
Supernatural
Ever since the stupendous and Emmy-worthy season 4 episode, “In The Beginning,” the “Supernatural” writers have winningly explored the theme of time-travel and shaken the Winchester family tree in episodes like “Time After Time,” "The Song Remains The Same" and this week's A-Bomb of an installment, “As Time Goes By.”

Grab your DeLorean and clutch your pearls, we're divin' in!

The episode opens in Normal, Illinois in 1958 with a man tucking in his son before venturing to an event shrouded in mystery with the secret knocks and strange costumes.  When the bodies start dropping, it’s clear th...

'Supernatural' Recap: Eternal Sunshine of the Tortured Mind

January 17th, 2013 10:12am EST
Supernatural
“Supernatural” had me at the first “son of a bitch!” After a shocker of a winter finale, that left Sam and Dean in opposite corners on opposite side of the country—Dean siding with troubled vampire Benny; and Sam accidentally reuniting with his old flame Amelia—it returns with the show’s strange and engrossing take on a romantic comedy.  “Torn and Frayed” had it all: angels, sacrifice, and heartrending break-ups.

Let’s dive in shall we!

The episode begins with Dean knock-knock-knockin’ on Sam’s door in Kermit, Texas.  His kid brother is seven feet of anger, betrayal and disbelief and ne...
