“Glee” star Cory Monteith, 31, has died, CNN.com reports. Monteith’s body was discovered Saturday afternoon in a Vancouver hotel room after he missed check-out. While authorities do not suspect foul play, an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” Fox and 20th Century Fox Television said in a statement.
The Canadian singer-actor had been admirably candid about his struggles with substance abuse. He had entered a treatment program in March 2013, missing the closing episodes of “Glee’s” fourth season.
Monteith’s death was a terrible shock, and his colleagues and friends took to Twitter to express their grief:
Adam Shankman, a director of several “Glee” episodes wrote, “Goodbye my amazing and beautiful friend. The lights in my world just grew dimmer. The world just lost one of our best…”
