Warning: Contains SPOILERS from the Season Four Finale of Game of Thrones and also reveals parts of George R.R. Martin's novel "A Storm of Swords," the third book in his A Song of Ice and Fire saga. Do not go on reading unless, of course, you've read the books.

Producers promised fans that the season four finale of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" would be "epic," and, of course, it was -- but there were troves of book readers crying out on Monday morning about the exclusion of a certain character from the show's finale.

*SPOILERS* While viewers saw the storyline of Brienne of Tarth and her squire, Podrick Payne, cross paths with that of The Hound and Arya Stark play out on screen (something that wasn't in the book), expectations of Brienne and Pod being captured by the Brotherhood Without Banners and taken before Lady Stoneheart began to fade and were ultimately dashed, as the show's final scene saw Arya boarding a sailing vessel and headed across The Narrow Sea on her way to Braavos.

All book readers know that Lady Stoneheart is the resurrected and very vengeful Lady Catelyn Stark in her zombified form, brought back to life by Thoros of Myr after Lord Beric Dondarrion sacrificed himself for the cause.

Thrones star Lena Headey added fuel to the rumors that Lady Stoneheart would appear when she posted an image of a heart made of stones to her Instagram page just days before the finale.

The episode's director, Alex Graves, explained to Entertainment Weekly Radio that Stoneheart wasn't planned for season four in the first place.

“It’s a great question, because it’s all I asked about last year when I was doing [the episode with] Beric Dondarrion  — who ultimately is the person who finds Catelyn and turns her into Lady Stoneheart," Graves said, "But no, they didn’t do it. It was never on the docket to do this season — ever.”

"[To] bring back Michelle Fairley, one of the greatest actresses around, to be a zombie for a little while — and just kill people? It is really sort of, what are we doing with that?" he adds. "...But what’s funny is that it was never going to be in the season, yet it took off on the Internet like it was going to happen.”

Tweets of disdain included the likes of, "thanks for all the hints about lady stoneheart #GameOfThrones i'm so glad we finally got to see her. oh wait," from @baratheonstag; and "Lady Stoneheart wasn't in the episode. I'm just going to set fire to everything I own and cry over the ashes. Good night," from @the_pigeon_lady.

User @StevenElijah chimed in with, "@GameOfThrones @HBO yeahh lets have Jon snow cry like a little b*tch instead of using that time for lady stoneheart wtf?"
