Fashion designer L'Wren Scott died of a suspected suicide on Monday after being found hanging by a scarf from a doorknob in her Manhattan apartment.

Scott, who had been dating Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger for well over a decade, didn't leave a suicide note, but she did text her assistant and asked her to come to her apartment, wher she discoverd Scott's body and called police.

The 49-year-old's death shocked Jagger, who released a statement on his website Tuesday.

"I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way," Jagger wrote in the post, which was accompanied by a photo of Scott. "We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

"I will never forget her, Mick."
