Dave Chappelle Wants North Korea To Nuke Hartford, CT; Calls Crowd 'Young, White Alcoholics'
Comedian Dave Chappelle used his sour experience with a few hecklers during his Hartford, Conn. gig last week as material to get the crowd pumped up at the start of his Chicago, Ill. performance on Tuesday night.
The comedian lashed out at the city, calling the crowd "evil" and a bunch of "young, white alcoholics".
Last Thursday, Chappelle, who is headlining the "Funny or Die Presents The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival", walked out on the Hartford crowd shortly after taking the stage and telling few jokes. The comedian halted his performance because of a few of hecklers and an overall "noisy" crowd he felt was disrespecting him.
He walked off the stage after 25 minutes of scolding the crowd and sitting quietly on a stool just so he could meet his contractual obligation and still get paid for the gig.
"He didn't do anything. He just stood there. ... He wanted quiet. He wanted everyone to be quiet while he performed," one audience member told Connecticut's NBC affiliate WVIT 30.
"I don't want anything bad to happen to the United States," Chappelle told the Chicago crowd Tuesday, "but if North Korea ever drops a nuclear bomb on this country, I swear to God, I hope it lands in Hartford, Connecticut."
Chappelle also referred to the racially-charged rant that comedian Michael Richards launched into when he was heckled during a Laugh Factory show in 2006 -- a move that all but destroyed his career.
"I wanted to pull a 'reverse Kramer'," Chappelle said, referencing Richards' character from hit NBC sitcom Seinfeld, "and call them all 'crackers' or something like that."
Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra has since gotten word about Chappelle's remarks about his city and responded to him via a statement, calling the comedian's jabs "immature and inappropriate".
"Dave Chappelle should stick to his job, give the fans what they paid for and not disparage the good people of Hartford," Segarra said.
The Mayor also posted a comment about it on Twitter.
"Dave Chappelle should quit whining, do his job and try some yoga," he wrote.
The comedian also vowed never to return to the city, not even "for f---ing gas".
