Stephen Moyer To Star Opposite Carrie Underwood In NBC's 'The Sound Of Music'
True Blood star Stephen Moyer is set to play Captain George von Trapp in NBC's forthcoming production of The Sound Of Music.
Moyer will play opposite Carrie Underwood, who stars in the lead role of Maria von Trapp, the part made famous by Julie Andrews in the five-time Oscar-winning 1965 film.
The production will be based on the original Tony Award-winning 1959 Broadway play, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and will air live December 5 to kick off the holiday season.
Moyer is no stranger to the theater, he recently played lawyer Billy Flynn during a three-night run of musical Chicago at California's Hollywood Bowl. He's also a veteran of the UK theater, having worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Oxford Stage Company, The Young Vic and the National Theater of Wales. He's also a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
The story focuses on an Austrian widower who hires a former nun to care for his seven mischevious children. The two begin falling for each other while World War II is getting underway, which complicates things.
