Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee for its upcoming fifth season, according to the show's creator Ryan Murphy
Murphy tweeted the news on Wednesday, wrigint, "I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall."
The American Idol season eight runner-up re-tweeted Murphy's message, adding, "I'm so excited!! ;) "
So far there's no word on what Lambert's role will be on the show or whether his character will be a series regular or just a recurring spot.
Fox recently confirmed that series regulars Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Harry Shum Jr. would have reduced roles on the show in the upcoming season, making room for some new cast members.
Lambert was a frontrunner to join the judging panel on the upcoming season of Idol, but E! News reports that it's "not looking likely" as the show is dealing with a major shake up behind the scenes.
"Glee" returns for its fifth season on Thursday, Sept. 19.
