'So You Think You Can Dance' 2 Of 14 Voted Off
So You Think You Can Dance elimination show began with a jazz number by Wade and Amanda Robson. "Aha!" by Imogen Heap, who seems to be the most used musical artists this week, paired with the unique "covered pieces of art" theme was cool. I loves me some intricate group work that mixed and cuts up groups at different times. There was enough of that to keep me with the piece, but the odd interplay of light and darkness, motion and flex feet/hands kept me alert and looking for what was yet to come. Hopefully all the dancers enjoyed it because that's the last time two of them will dance with anybody from this cast. Not surprisingly Karen and Kevin were in the bottom, along with Channing, Victor, Mollee, and Nathan. Mollee and Nathan may actually have to pay for their immaturity and lack of growth in the competition, although I don't think the judges want that to happen. The judges send them off backstage to compose themselves before they all dance for their lives.
In the meantime, we're treated to NDM Bollywood Dance Productions. It strangely reminds me of a poms routine instead of a culturally accurate bollywood piece. (And with one small comparison I've ostracized myself from supporters of both dance styles!)
Despite Nigel being a creepy old and inappropriate man, Adam being a bit flighty and Mary giving Ms. Abdul a run for her money, these judges sometimes know exactly what they're talking about. This season, they've preached again and again that the solos the bottom six are required to perform to maintain their spots on the show have been lackluster. Few stepped up to the plate and delivered this week.
Kevin seemed to run out of ideas at the end of his and Karen never really had one to start with. Viktor was throwing down the gauntlet to break up the run of the mill dancing. He was very impressive with all his spinning and changing arm positions (mid-quadruple spin or quintuple). Yay Viktor. Mollee danced well but again, lacked some emotion and passion. Nathan had enough unique moves that he proved his point. He needs to stay.
Channing….honestly, I didn't remember her solo after the commercial. Which isn't to say she was bad, but obviously not incredibly memorable. This all goes back to her lack of connection in her dancing. You may be entertained by her routines, but are you ever moved? She needs to grow right now, or go home.
Kevin looks like the boy to leave and it could be Karen or Channing that goes home. If my life depended on it, I'd bet we'll see Channing at least one more time. One more week is what she deserves.
But not what she gets. The judges unanimously kick off Channing and cite what has been obvious all along. She has all the skills and technique, but not much personality and passion when she performs. Oddly enough, Mollee seems to have even less in her performances in my opinion, but at the right times Mollee seemed to pull it out and survive. It's sad to see Channing go - it's the first time this season that a dancer that could grow more is gone too soon. The "look at me" spark that Viktor and Jacob exude and cannot be taught isn't there, but she could have lasted one or two more weeks and created some memorable performances. Her contemporary piece with Viktor was the best routine thus far in Season 6. It wouldn't be that disappointing if the person that was saved was Karen. Really? They're keeping her on because she counters Mollee's inability to dance like a tramp. There, I said it. Now give Karen a contemporary piece like Melissa's breast cancer masterpiece from last season and see how she douses it in gasoline and sets it ablaze while overtly whipping her hips. This elimination has made me uneasy - Karen should have gone this week, and fine, Channing next. But the ballroom soloist needed to leave.

I have a feeling the eliminations the rest of this season are going to make me angry. If Viktor or Jacob leave too soon, there will be no follow-up article as my laptop will be in pieces in the middle of the street. You've been warned.
