Demi Moore's recent divorce from Ashton Kutcher has triggered a downward spiral. The 49-year old actress, who is fast approaching her 50th birthday, is said to be facing despair and anguish over her age.

While Moore was once a symbol of empowerment for women over 40, she is now known for public humiliation because of her husband's infidelity.

Kutcher, 33, was rumored to be involved with a bevy of young beauties at the time of their split; but the Two And A Half Men star's actions were less than shocking since he was linked to several women months before the couple's divorce was announced.

According to this week’s People Magazine, on newsstands this Friday, Moore's meltdown stems from her fight to stay young.

"As Demi got older, she convinced herself that she needed to stay young and skinny to remain attractive to her husband," a source close to the couple says.

The star has sought treatment, no word yet on what exactly led to her hospitalization but drugs are said to be involved.
