This Week's Shining & Falling Stars: Beyonce and Superman

Beyonce Knowles

Shining Star – Beyonce: Beyonce knows how to break a sweat for a good cause.

The R&B diva is helping to get kids off the couch and on their feet with a new music video called “Move Your Body” – a reworked version of her 2007 hit, “Get Me Bodied”. The part workout/part head-bopping jam was created for First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign and is set to be distributed to schools across the country.

It features the chart-topping entertainer leading a group of students in a dance routine in the middle of a school cafeteria. I know what you’re thinking – how come my school lunch lady only served up day-old Sloppy Joes and not killer dance moves?

And it seems that Beyonce didn’t just phone this one in. At more than 4 minutes long, there’s a whole lot of shaking going on.

Perhaps the most amazing aspect of Beyonce’s exercise vid? The fact that she’s dancing up a storm while wearing skinny-minny stilettos. Kids, don’t try working out in heels at home.

Falling Star – Superman

Superman ain’t looking so super. Things are so bad, in fact, that even the Man of Steel can’t protect himself from being dubbed this week’s “Falling Star”!

The comic book hero is apparently set to renounce his U.S. citizenship. He reportedly makes the uber unpatriotic move in the 900th issue of the classic super hero story by Action Comics.

The Metropolis, USA, resident is quoted in the issue as saying, “I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my U.S. citizenship. I'm tired of having my actions construed as instruments of U.S. policy." Superman sources say the red-caped one’s support of a non-violent protest in Iran led to friction with American government officials.

Superman obviously needs a better P.R. team. He even goes as far as scoffing at his famous saying, declaring, “Truth, justice, and the American way – it’s not enough anymore.”

It’s not a bird, or a plane – it’s…Unloyal Man? Just doesn’t have the same ring to it. And where does a super hero go when he decides to abandon his country? I hear they’re looking for a few good men on Krypton.
