Tika Sumpter Lands Role In James Brown Biopic 'Get On Up'
Tyler Perry's The Have and the Have Nots star Tika Sumpter has joined the cast of the James Brown biopic Get On Up.
The 33-year-old actress will play Yvonne Fair, one of Brown's back-up singers who recorded a song written by the legendary singer called I Found You, which was later turned into his best-selling single I Got You (I Feel Good).
Deadline reports that Sumpter will join a cast including Chadwick Boseman, who will play the Godfather of Soul, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, and Viola Davis.
Mick Jagger is producing the Brown biopic along with Brian Grazer. Tate Taylor, who previously directed The Help, which featured both Spencer and Davis, is at the helm of the movie.
Brown, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and ranked seventh in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest artists of all time, died from congestive heart failure and pneumonia in 2006.
