Tionna Smalls: Leading The Bossy Life
Starpulse.com’s Jeza Belle caught up with Tionna Smalls, the relationship guru of the MTV show “Girl, Get Your Mind Right”. Tionna shared why “Men Love Abuse”, her outlook on thinking with the heart, and news on her new magazine launch.
Tell our readers what you have been up to:
Currently I've been on the news quite a bit promoting the audio version of my book "Men Love Abuse", which is about women treating men the way they treat us in order to get the results WE want! Only now, you can hear yours truly narrating. In addition I'm out on a "Ladies Tour", where I've been out meeting up with my fans across the United States, and we are getting ready to head up to Canada too before the year ends. Plus, I have a new magazine, “Bossy”, coming out! It’s a very exciting time for me!
Where did you gain your insight on love?
Definitely from those crazy parents of mine! They've been married 29 years and they were always open about love and sex with us. That's where I got most of my insight. I took several sociology courses in college, and now I'm actually going back to college to be a therapist...but my parents were the main source.
Is there a common dating trend you have noticed?
Yes...I notice when women get a man, they lose their minds! They don't want to go out no more or have fun with the girls. Everything becomes about their man honey, I know!
How do you know when it’s time to move on in a relationship?
When you are just miserable! You have to remember, when you are dating someone, they are supposed to be an asset to you, not a liability. You are supposed to be happy. That's why 1+1=2; you're supposed to be happier. But, if you're with somebody and you're sad, you don't need to be with them. You need to be with someone that brings something to your life or move on. There are a lot of people out there in relationships by themselves but they don't know it! The other person is not committed to the same things as them. They go to bed every night alone even if there is someone in the bed next to them. That man or woman is spiritually or emotionally gone. That's why for me, I don't have to get hit by the car twice to know I've got to look both ways!
Was there a time when your head knew you had to move on but your heart wasn’t having it?
In my grown life? No. In my grown life, I'm good money. I try not to think with my heart. But, when I was young, I had to move on from my first love. I had to learn that making decisions with your heart will ALWAYS lead you to a bad place...think with your head!
Television, books AND publishing! Tell us about Bossy Magazine?
Bossy Magazine will launch to a diverse crowd, young professionals ,18-35, who are all about the bossy life; nice cars, bossy clothes, big moves...entrepreneurial six-figure moves. The website will but up early October and the first issue with MOI on the cover will be out this January! The magazine is bi-monthly, with six issues a year.
Any other area of business calling your name that you might want to explore in the future?
Oh yes…I’m obsessed with real estate development and specifically restaurants. You will definitely be hearing more about that in my future. I’m all about the money and big moves plus cooking, so you will hear more! Actually, I’m also obsessed with the young professional crowd. No matter where you are from, there is an avenue to make money and I love that. We have to look forward and build our independence and future.
Gays everywhere are also catching on to your words of wisdom when it comes to men and dating; have you ever given advice specifically to a gay man, if so what was it, and if not is there any way you might tailor your message differently?
I never tailor my message because if you’re messing with a man it’s the same advice! Gay, straight, whatever; it’s the same message about relationships. I give advice to gay men all the time, the only difference is I can say whatever to them and they don’t care and I love that!
Time to dish with the drag queen:
One thing that makes a woman sexy:
Her confidence…her swag!
Best way a man can impress on a first date:
Don’t hesitate when that check comes… paying for the date with no problems! Pick it up and do it. It should be a given but now a day’s these guys don’t have to do a thing but give you a hard *ahem* and bubblegum!
A woman’s worst enemy:
One thing you should never go out of the house with:
Gum and lip gloss. Your breath and lips always have to be poppin’!
Finally, what does the future hold for Tionna Smalls?
Happiness…just growing with love, more money and stability. The good life! I don’t want to be the girl that does everything but never accomplishes anything.
