HU Column: Fair Game Looks Aren't Everything
LOS ANGELES (HOLLYWOOD UNWRAPPED) -- E3 is right around the corner but the better news is that GK Films has acquired the rights and is planning to reboot the Tomb Raider movie franchise. The new game is being done from scratch. Looking at the new images, Lara Croft looks like a normal girl now, much more than she’s ever looked before! Thank God they removed her 36D Breasts (not that I am complaining). Like the rest of the world (well, those of us who dream about her!), I couldn’t be more excited. Now she can be more of a real life role model for girls that play the game than yet another fake girl who gives today's youngsters expectations that they’ll never be able to accomplish.
The game (and I hope the movie) will both follow Lara Croft in her younger years. Here’s the first problem for the casting directors. The first two movies had Angelina Jolie in them and she will no longer be able to star in the upcoming version because she’s too old. Ms. Jolie also said she has no interest in returning. Now, the new Lara needs to be young enough to play the character for possibly a long period of time, a la Harry Potter. The actress that gets the role needs to be athletic and beautiful. At times, she also must look like she also has to be well equipped upstairs (if I can say that without offending anyone). Oh well...I guess she needs to have some pretty big Tits or does she???
With a new game being developed, as I sit in my office typing up this column, I’m thinking of who I want to see in the new role and only one girl comes to mind. She’s the girl that has already been Lara Croft for a handful of years as the official spokes model for the Tomb Raider Underworld game. That, ladies and gentlemen, is 26 year old British actress, model and gymnast Alison Carroll. Ms. Carroll has everything you could want to star in the motion picture version of Tomb Raider, beginning with being able to do all of her own stunts, which is always a plus. She's in top physical shape. Before getting the role, Carroll received special training with the Special Air Service (SAS), as well as in weapons and archaeology. Ms. Carroll already has been trained to become Lara once and looking at pictures and video, I couldn’t see a better fit! The American audience would quickly fall in love with her. I know that I have from the moment that I saw her. The only thing that Alison Carroll is missing is the resume to become the lead in such a movie. She’s still unknown to a large part of the world population and that’s her biggest disadvantage, which is a big one.
I also picked a few other candidates to make it a fair and balanced competition. What do we think of Taylor Cole (The Green Hornet and The Event)? How about two of the girls from the reboot of Charlies Angels- Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor? Erica Durance from Smallville should definitely be in the running. She did nothing but kick ass on the show but she might be too old. My second pick might be Lyndsy Fonseca, from the WB’s Nikita who, at age 24, is pretty much perfect for the role. Another outside candidate is The Mentalist’s Amanda Righetti who also fits the bill. Some of the suggestions I’ve seen online include Mila Kunis (I went to high school with her and Thanks for giving me a HAND in the bathroom that time! ) who’s become very popular since Black Swan and will draw interest. Scarlett Johansson is another name to mention but she’s too busy filming Black Widow and Olivia Wilde who’s up for deliberation.
Again, my personal choice is Alison Carroll. After seeing her videos as the real life Lara Croft and watching her in movies like “Doghouse”, “Life is an Art” and the trailer for “Rise of an Exile”, I’m convinced! Oh and did I say she is hotter than hot? I hope I get to play the new game at this year’s E3 convention which is happening in Los Angeles next week.
