The Flick: Besides the inclusion of amazing actor Scoot McNairy (see everything from "In Search of a Midnight Kiss" to "Argo!") I didn’t have high hopes for this found footage low budget chiller.  And yes, the set up is quite ho-hum featuring three folks with their own secrets and quirks hitting some nearby woods, again with the exception of the oddly engaging work by McNairy.  But then when the sunlight goes down and our three heroes end up in a thick forest something surprising happens – things get actually scary.  There’s some damn terrifying stuff that I hate to admit made me jump out of my seat and cringe in fear.  (Saying a lot – I’ve seen it all!)  Director Richard Parry certainly has a knack for the frightening and when it’s on full blast here it’s a fear feat.  Can’t say the whole film cooks, but when evil comes out to play dinner is on the table.

Best Feature: No features at all – Parry should have done a commentary track at least!

Best Hidden Gem: Again, McNairy is gracing the presence of this decent B-movie with his cool A-list character work and eerie moments.

Worth the Moola: Looking for an in the woods found footage flick with actual scares – spend the night in this terror tree for best results.
