Heavy Traffic Blu-ray

   Title: "Heavy Traffic"

   Director: Ralph Bakshi

   Rating: R

   Runtime: 77 minutes

The Flick: As far as animation mixed with a real-life influence (in this case pinball showing the highs and lows of life), "Heavy Traffic" shows the provocative potential of Director Ralph Bakshi.  It also shows a seriously dated 70’s point of view in everything from its carefree toon sex (there’s animated salaciousness galore!) to harsh racial tone and it makes for a seemingly uncomfortable flick to watch at times.  I personally think that Bakshi got it right with both the former "Fritz the Cat" and when he made 1992’s "Cool World" (even though he himself hates it!), which had just the right amount of sex, sizzle and animation gusto to put the point across without jamming it down viewer throat.  "Heavy Traffic" is like a test run that has its share of ups and downs – not the kind of thing that should end up in a final fine work collection.

Best Feature: I guess Bakshi feels the same way as he - and any extras for that matter – are totally MIA from this release.

Best Hidden Gem: Loved the sassy Ida Corleone character that doesn’t take crap from her cheating hubby.  (Though in Bakshi fashion her boob also keeps falling out sporadically!)

Worth the Moola: Bakshi with potential – strictly rental fare for fans.
