Blu-ray Review: 'Beyond'
How far would you go to find your missing child? What beliefs and boundaries would you be willing to break for their safe return? We’re taking a look at the cross genre jumping kidnapping flick "Beyond," out now on Blu-ray from Anchor Bay Home Entertainment - the answers to all below.
Cast: Jon Voight, Teri Polo, Dermot Mulroney
Director: Josef Rusnak
Runtime: 90 minutes
Release Company: Anchor Bay Home Entertainment
The Flick: "Beyond" has an interesting premise (though not exactly an original one!) but the delivery leaves a lot to be desired. Meaning there are some memorable tussles between Jon Voight’s hard nosed detective and Julian Morris’s spiritual psychic both looking for a missing girl, but is buried under a sea of uneven tone (drama, thriller or supernatural suspense flick?), forgettable acting (where is the Teri Polo from "Mystery Date?") and genre issues. (This one doesn't go far enough in any category to care!) A classic example of an idea with potential that gets slapped together fast just to make a movie really quick – the tale is always the thing.
Best Feature: There are actually no features on this release – we demand answers!
Best Hidden Gem: I liked Julian Morris as the TV psychic with a "Dead Zone" Walken like affliction.
Worth the Moola: This one promises to be everything, but falls short in all aspects. A few good ideas and scenes does not a good rental make.
