Renee Zellweger

Love all things Renee?  Well you might want to check out the recent DVD import infused with a little Zellweger in the form of the "Renee Zellweger 4-Film DVD Collection" out now from Lionsgate Home Entertainment – check out the list of flicks from good to bad below!

Renee Zellweger DVD

Title: "Bridget Jones’s Diary"

Grade: 4

Cast: Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant

Director: Sharon Maguire

Rating: R

Runtime: 98 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

The Flick: By far the most cool and quirky of the four titles, Zellweger is in her element as an insecure British waif Bridget Jones.  It helps that her male counterparts Colin Firth (pre-"The King’s Speech" but as equally awkward here!) and Hugh Grant are charming as well, but this is Zellweger’s show all the way and she ain’t afraid to chew the scenery.

Title: "Cold Mountain"

Grade: 4

Cast: Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger

Director: Anthony Minghella

Rating: R

Runtime: 154 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

The Flick: Although playing a side role to the main romance between long-distance lovers Nicole Kidman and Jude Law, Zellweger almost steals the show as a sassy ranch hand out to buck the status quo.  It may seem like a throwaway role, but as the bold and honest character in a flick full of some grandiose grown ups, Zellweger provides more then just an anchor - she’s thanklessly keeps the flick grounded.

Title: "Chicago"

Grade: 2 1/2

Cast: Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones

Director: Rob Marshall

Rating: PG-13

Runtime: 113 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

The Flick: Flash is not something that "Chicago" is lacking - on the contrary I wish it had a little less.  Part costume drama, part movie musical, "Chicago" never seems to mesh the two seamlessly.  There are great songs (even after all these years ‘All That Jazz’ still sounds good!) and well-dressed characters (Zellweger does don some tasty threads!), but there’s just far too much going on for a musical.

Title: "New In Town"

Grade: 1

Cast: Renee Zellweger, Harry Connick Jr., J.K. Simmons

Director: Jonas Elmer

Rating: PG

Runtime: 97 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

The Flick: Bad fish out of water tale (didn't that one go out with the first Crocodile Dundee back in 1986?!) with Zellweger playing a stuck up business lady forced to go to small town in Minnesota and mingle with the little people.  As unfunny and condescending as it sounds – not hard to guess how this predictable turkey ends. (Hint - it's not new!)

Worth the Moola: Two out of four ain’t bad, but I would have included Zellweger’s best work "Love and a .45" in this collection to make it complete!
