Gwyneth Paltrow

Got to get some Gwyneth?  Looks like the folks at Lionsgate Home Entertainment got you covered with the new to DVD set "Gwyneth Paltrow 4-Film DVD Collection" out now - check out the list of flicks from good to bad below!

Gwyneth Paltrow DVD

Title: "Shakespeare in Love"

Grade: 4

Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, Joseph Fiennes, Geoffrey Rush

Director: John Madden

Rating: R

Runtime: 122 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Website: www.lionsgatedvd.com

The Flick: I avoided this one for a long time, but finally saw it and fell in love.  Paltrow plays a woman out to act in a man’s world and produces some of the hottest chemistry with on-screen beau Joseph Fiennes since Taylor and Burton.  Some great side players (Geoffrey Rush and Judi Dench can't go wrong!) and some not-so-great (Affleck – really?!), but a fabulous movie regardless.

Title: "Bounce"

Grade: 3 1/2

Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck, Tony Goldwyn

Director: Don Roos

Rating: PG-13

Runtime: 106 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Website: www.lionsgatedvd.com

The Flick: I loved the captivating Paltrow in this, just wish that the male lead was anyone but the wooden Affleck.  (This was early on and yes, he got better!)  The premise is dark enough for Director Roos, but sweet enough to make Paltrow shine as a grieving widowed mom of two – but where is Joseph Fiennes when you need him?!

Title: "View From The Top"

Grade: 3

Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Applegate, Mark Ruffalo

Director: Bruno Barreto

Rating: PG-13

Runtime: 87 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Website: www.lionsgatedvd.com

The Flick: Again the romance and comedy of Paltrow and her co-flying stewardess gal pals Christina Applegate and Kelly Preston is just the right tone, but low-key man of the hour Mark Ruffalo all but brings that tasty vibe to a screeching halt as Paltrow’s miscast lust-de-jour.  We really need to get this gal a man more befitting.

Title: "Emma"

Grade: 2

Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeremy Northam, Ewan McGregor

Director: Douglas McGrath

Rating: PG

Runtime: 121 minutes

Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Website: www.lionsgatedvd.com

The Flick: Some liked this Jane Austen adaptation – not me.  Featuring early in the Miramax family stars and a rather boring set up and delivery, "Emma" comes off as being a little too clever and better then the viewer.  Compared to some of the other Austen outings – not to mention other Paltrow work – "Emma" is a gal to forget.

Worth the Moola: MIA with Paltrow favs "Flesh and Bone" (highly underrated!) and "Hard Eight" this one is a recommend solely on the work of the captivating Paltrow regardless of lame male counterparts.
