Blu-ray Review: 'Killer Elite'

Statham. Owen. De Niro. Nuff said. We’re taking another gander at the based on a true story action yarn “Killer Elite” out on Blu-ray Jan 10 from Universal Home Entertainment. Mano-to-mano review below!

Title: "Killer Elite"
Grade: 2
Cast: Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Robert De Niro
Director: Gary McKendry
Rating: R
Runtime: 117 minutes
Release Company: Universal Home Entertainment

The Flick: Re-watching "Killer Elite" in a home setting, I wasn’t as bothered by the film’s slower pacing. Unfortunately, the chocked full of too much info due to being based on a true story element is still front and center in this one. But while Statham goes through the tough guy motions and De Niro seems to walk his way through, I still appreciated the layered and complex work by Clive "Shoot ‘Em Up" Owen as a soldier in desperate need of a war. This one could have been a serious stand out – just needed an editor who’s an expert in unneeded subplot and useless ideas cutting.
Best Feature: The 'Deleted Scenes' have (oh yeah!) sweet candy in the form of extra cut Clive Owen kicking ass sequences that should have stayed in the movie!
Best Hidden Gem: Dominic Purcell plays a particularly memorable slimy role here!
Worth the Moola: Action fans who aren’t all that discerning and don’t mind a long running time (and a little awesome Owen as an added bonus!), you might enjoy this one more than I did.
