Scary movie 3

Does the hi-def format of Blu-ray enhance the comedy of David Zucker or the Wayans clan?  We’re gonna find out when we take a look at the new Blu-ray versions of both "Scary Movie 2" and "Scary Movie 3.5" out this week from Lionsgate.  Follow the funny below!

Scary movie 2

   Title: "Scary Movie 2"

   Grade: 2

Cast: Anna Faris, Tim Curry, James Woods

   Director: Keenen Ivory Wayans

   Rating: R

   Runtime: 82 minutes

   Release Company: Lionsgate

   Website: www.lionsgatebluray.com

The Flick: You can definitely feel the Wayans wary comedy vibe all over this one and it’s not all good news.  The normally hilarious Anna Faris is given little in terms of decent material, icons like Tim Curry and James Woods are reduced to potty humor and Marlon and Shawn seem to almost be killing time to cash their checks.  On the good side, Chris Elliott all but steals the movie with a single finger gag that never gets old, plus there’s some actual engaging Tori Spelling moments that illicit laughter...on purpose!  (Good show Tori!)  But like most Wayans stuff, there’s just not enough funny to justify the money.

Best Feature: The featurette 'Here Kitty, Kitty' shows the various incarnations of the cat from hell – at least they were trying with this Faris funny gag!

Best Hidden Gem: Chris Elliott.  Finger.  Creepy.  Nuff said.

Worth the Moola:  Two times not exactly a charm for this lukewarm comedy sequel – stick with "I’m Gonna Get You Sucka" for a safer Keenen bet!

Scary movie 3

   Title: "Scary Movie 3.5"

   Grade: 3

Cast: Anna Faris, Charlie Sheen, Eddie Griffin

   Director: David Zucker

   Rating: Unrated

   Runtime: 85 minutes

   Release Company: Lionsgate

   Website: www.lionsgatebluray.com

The Flick: With folks from the "Airplane" school of comedy on board, this one does fly higher then it’s previous predecessor – but not by much.  When Director David Zucker sticks to the genre elements of scary movies things work dandy (top work by Faris and Charlie ‘before he was insane’ Sheen.  It’s the myriad of "8 Mile" and "Matrix" non-relevant movie references that start to kill off the comedy.

Best Feature: The ‘Bloopers’, where folks get the rare treat of a little extra of the late great Leslie Nielsen – he the man!

Best Hidden Gem: Charlie Sheen in former "Hot Shots!" comedic form!

Worth the Moola: Rental only – purchase should only be for comedies funny thoughout!
