Blu-ray Review: 'Mars Needs Moms'
Ready to hit the space super highway to get back the woman who gave birth to you? Well then, brace yourself and hold on for dear life as we explore the cosmos (and the complexity of the mystery that is mom!) in the form of Disney’s "Mars Needs Moms," out on DVD and Blu-ray August 9! Earth and details below!
Title: "Mars Needs Moms"
Cast: Seth Green, Dan Fogler, Joan Cusack
Director: Simon Wells
Runtime: 88 minutes
Release Company: Disney
The Flick: As far as motion capture flicks go, "Mars Needs Moms" does fill the kiddie quotient (aka lots of cool monsters, visual gags and lessons to be learned!), but adults may feel a tad left out. Most glaring for the grown ups is the physical presence of Seth Green, as the tot who goes looking for his mom on the red planet, whose vocals were redone by an actual kid. The end result leaves Green’s fun and lively character without a voice. (Metaphorically and physically!) All the other characters have their own memorable mouths (the always wacky Joan Cusack as the manic mom and Dan "Balls of Fury" Fogler as a stranded mars man!), but the loss of Green’s gift for gab is most certainly felt here.
Best Feature: 'Martian 101' where we learn that not only did the filmmakers take outer space life seriously, but they even created a whole wall of phrases and alien alternate language!
Best Hidden Gem: By far the Alternate stuff where you get not only a different and darker opening, but fans finally get to see Green do AND speak the role - this is the stuff!
Worth the Moola: Strictly for the youngsters the bet is a sure thing – but if it ain’t broke Disney, don’t fix it. (aka the red planet could’ve used a little Green!)
