Jared Padalecki Hints That 'Supernatural' Could Go Out With A Bang
"Right now we're in that sort of limbo," Padalecki said. "[The network says], 'Well, we really like the show. We don't know if it's coming back but make it really good for the final five episodes.' What's really good? Should we kill everybody, should everybody live, should we introduce somebody new?"
If this year were to be the last, he and series creator Eric Kripke would want to go out with a bang. "[Kripke says,] 'If you've been cancelled, you're all going to die.' It's like let's put some finality to this. So I think we'll find out in probably the next month, and then we shoot until April."

Recent episodes have hinted on drastic developments with Padalecki's character, but even that will hinge on whether or not there's another year of stories. "I mean, obviously it's been clear to me that Sam's going to go darker, so to what end I'm not sure, whether he's doing things right now that are not okay with anybody."
