'Glee' Recap: It's Mash-Up Week!

November 16th, 2011 9:50am EST
Glee 305
It seems like ‘Glee’ has just decided to pretend last week’s West Side Virgin Story never happened. Thank goodness! What a relief it is to jump right back into election season and age-inappropriate relationships! Puck leads the boys in a sexually charged performance of Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” within the first five minutes of the episode and it's clear that we can put 'The First Time' behind us and have some fun this week.

The good news gets even better when Ms. Corcoran , who has nice scenes with just about every single character in this show, speaks to Mr. Schue about keeping their...

'Glee' Recap: Virgin Scorecard

November 9th, 2011 12:53pm EST
Glee Rachel and Blaine
Like Sandra Dee, this week’s ‘Glee’ was lousy with virginity. Expectations were high after promos showed Rachel, Finn, Kurt and Blaine all getting their sexy on… but as it happened, ‘The First Time’ was kind of disappointing.

Unfortunately, West Side Story just doesn’t lend itself to this theme the way Madonna does. The season one tribute to the Queen of Pop covered similar territory and featured “Like a Virgin,” the most perfect song for the occasion. More importantly, the subject of de-flowering came up naturally and organically. Conversely, this week’s sudden sexual awakening isn’t moti...

'Glee' Recap: Puck Goes To Cougar Town

November 2nd, 2011 1:37pm EDT
GLEE: Quinn (Dianna Agron, L) and Puck (Mark Salling, R)
After yielding its timeslot to Major League Baseball for the past few weeks, “Glee” returned last night with an hour of leprechauns, cougars, and congressional candidates. Picking up where the series left off, this reasonably focused episode advanced several plotlines and introduced some new talent, in the form of ‘Glee Project’ winner, Damian McGinty.

The second of four new cast members that will, at some point, be transplanted from the Oxygen Channel’s competitive reality show to the Fox flagship, McGinty was front and center in his inaugural appearance as foreign exchange student, Rory...

A 'Real Housewives' Halloween

November 2nd, 2011 7:16am EDT
real housewives
Was “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” the scariest Halloween show of them all? Despite documenting an event that took place months ago, and dialing down the intra-group witchery that dominated the last few outings of this inherently spooky season, the hour shaped up to be as much of a fright-fest as the rest of the October 31st-themed programming.

The scary sights commenced with a tried and true classic – the mummy. In a post-surgery haze, Kyle Richards’ mother-in-law, woke up and from under the gauze of her new face, croaked out the words, “Do you want to dance with me?” Horrified, K...

Julie Andrews Celebrates 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' In NYC

September 19th, 2011 12:40pm EDT
Julie Andrews Breakfast at Tiffany's 50th Anniversary Screening
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is the kind of movie that feels familiar the first time you watch it, and seems fresher and brighter every time afterwards. It’s iconic. It’s Audrey Hepburn. It’s fashion and the little black dress.

It’s Moon River, a song “Sex & the City” fans may remember Carrie and Big dancing to in the show’s post-9/11 love letter to New York.

It’s New York at its most beautiful, romantic, and hopeful.

While the city has changed and there are certain details (Mickey Rooney) that may not be considered “timeless,” Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly is the type of stylish modern w...

'SYTYCD' Recap: Lady Gaga Adds To A Great Night Of 'Dance'

July 28th, 2011 4:34pm EDT
Lady Gaga Adds To A Great Night ON 'So You Think You Can Dance'
There were so many great things to say about the Lady Gaga guest hosted episode of “So You Think You Can Dance,” that the megastar’s warm presence was simply the icing on an already delicious cake. Nonetheless, major props to the pop icon for actually recognizing that and being comfortable enough in her two foot-plus high heels to (for the most part) cede the spotlight and celebrate the show’s contestants as the stars of the night.

A truly classy Lady, that Gaga… and a damn fine guest judge who critiqued each performance with a balanced mix of encouragement and constructive advice. Sure, ...

'The Glee Project' Hits All The High Notes

June 13th, 2011 11:35am EDT
The Glee Project
‘Glee’ isn’t back yet but in the meanwhile, fans can indulge in “The Glee Project,” a competitive casting spin-off that debuted last night on Oxygen. In a market where there’s no shortage of performing arts-related reality competition shows (NBC’s The Voice and America’s Got Talent, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, Bravo’s Platinum Hit are four current offerings, with American Idol recently completing another cycle, and Simon Cowell’s The X Factor debuting in the fall), “The Glee Project” turns out to be an entertaining and surprisingly interesting twist on the formula. Perhaps the weakes...

'Glee' Finale: Let's Hear It For 'New York'

The glee club visits New York City for Regionals
We made it! ‘Glee’ is in NYC to compete at Nationals and conclude a chart-topping, show-stopping, star-studded, post-Super Bowl time-slot scoring second season.

True to form, our favorite fictional show choir is in a situation that is about as absurd as the Broadway-obsessed Rachel Berry thinking that CATS is still open for business. New Directions has come to Nationals without a song or a set list and now they need to write a couple of hits in as many overstuffed hotel rooms. Brittany, Artie, and Puck offer up the ditty, “My Cup,” and there are enough eyes rolling around the room for som...
