Sara Bareilles had a "mid-life crisis" in 2013.

The 34-year-old singer made a number of life-changing decisions last year and took a new direction with her music, which has made her feel happier in herself.

She said: "I sort of went through a mid-life crisis last year. I didn't feel alive and so I made a lot of big changes. I left Los Angeles after 14 years there and moved to New York. I left a long-term relationship and went in a different direction from my old bands. This feels like a beautiful finish line, no matter what."

The 'Love Song' hitnaker is up for two Grammy awards, Album of the Year and Best Pop Song for her single 'Brave' and she was overjoyed when she found out.

She told People magazine: "I was shaking. I was in a hotel when my manager called, and I just screamed. I'm sure my neighbors must have thought something horrible had happened.

"This album ['The Blessed Unrest'] came from such a tumultuous place personally, so being acknowledged in this way is amazing."
