William Presides Over Evening Reception for Football Players
Prince William presided over a black tie gala dinner that celebrated one hundred and fifty years of the Association’s existence and held in the Grand Connaught Rooms of the palace.
“Tonight is not just an English celebration,” the Duke said.
”Football is international in every possible way and I believe that the game's constantly evolving spirit and appeal is a consolidation of all its global influences. Every nation should be proud of their contribution to 150 years of football.
”With all that in mind, I consider my position as President of The FA to be an honor and a privilege,” rhapsodized the prince and admitted to having a nervous time before he had the courage to ask the Queen if he could in fact host a football match on the very lawns of Buckingham Palace.
