'Medium' Recap: 'Pain Killer'
Allison dreams about a time she was in her coma and she almost died. A doctor came in and saved her when everyone else gave up. Joe never told her about this, and she's feeling a bit on the vulnerable side since a friend of hers from the hospital, Rosemary, is getting more ill. Allison visits Rosemary and they exposit how the two met during Allison's stay there after the coma. Rosemary is dying from heavy duty cancer, and she asks Allison to come up with a nice dream-vision to tell her family. This is a really sweet scene, with both actresses selling their friendship in the space of five minutes, but the music over it is terribly annoying. Sometimes "Medium" goes too far with its music choices, and this is one of them.
On her way out Allison meets the doctor that saved her and thanks him. They chat and he's charming, and he calls it even when she gives him a nickel for the vending machine. Of course you know he must be evil, since he seems so great. Allison dreams about her friend dying, trying to reach a phone, and a nurse just sitting by coldly. When she gets to the hospital she sees Rosemary's ghost who insists it was the nurse who killed her. The doctor, Dr. Statler, assures her that the charts say nothing of any trouble. She asks him to check again and to look her up so he'll know she's a psychic.
Statler says again there is nothing wrong with the charts, but Allison has a dream that after the nurse left he injected Rosemary and killed her. Dum dum duuuuum. She goes to the head of the hospital, Jerry, and he's like 'shoo crazy lady, he saves lives!' Statler shows up at her job and admits freely to her that he kills people for 'mercy.' Whooooooa. Mercy killings, haven't heard much chatter about them lately. He tries to seem compassionate and sincere, but he's a pretty creepy guy, and it gets more creepy when she has another vision. This one is of Jerry and him talking about killing Jerry's wife, making it look like a health problem, and taking out a big life insurance plan on her.
Allison and Devalos tell Jerry they'll let him off if he speaks out against Statler. We all know where this is headed. It's so not smart to let Jerry go back to his office with a serial killer loose, but they are on the innocent side. Naturally Statler fakes a heart attack by slipping Jerry some medication, and he dies. Allison's like 'WTF I know what you're doing.' He's like 'ha ha, too late, I'm going to Georgia and you can suck on it.' And that's how the episode ends. For real. She has no proof about his kills as everything appears to be natural, and he's going out of her jurisdiction to kill more people. It's not often that Allison loses, but when she does, it's acutely painful and unfair. Hopefully karma will catch up to Statler or she'll get him next time, but ouch to those poor people who die in between.
