Jared Padalecki clarifies comments over 'stupid, senseless' death of Philip Seymour Hoffman
Actor Jared Padalecki has clarified his controversial comments branding Philip Seymour Hoffman's death from a suspected drug overdose "stupid" and "senseless".
The Supernatural star took to his Twitter.com page hours after the Oscar winner's shocking passing on Sunday (02Feb14) and offered up his thoughts about reports suggesting heroin was to blame.
He wrote, "'Sad' isn't the word I'd use to describe a 46-year-old man throwing his life away to drugs. 'Senseless' is more like it. 'Stupid.'"
Padalecki's candid tweet sparked a backlash from some Twitter followers, who attacked him for his choice of words, prompting the 31 year old to delete his earlier message and clarify his statements.
Attempting to clear up the controversy, he wrote, "I didn't mean PSH is stupid or that addiction isnt a reality (sic). I simply meant I have a different definition of 'tragedy'.
"When I think 'tragedy', I think of St Judes (children's cancer research hospital), of genocide, of articles I read in the paper. But, yes, either way, a death, is sad."
Hoffman was found dead in his New York City home on Sunday (02Feb14).
