Pop star Katy Perry has demanded changes to America's firearm laws after a gunman opened fire at a shopping mall in Maryland on Saturday (25Jan14).

Two people were shot dead at the Baltimore, Maryland retail centre and the unnamed shooter then turned the gun on himself. Five others were also injured.

It is the latest shooting incident to shock America and it has reignited the national debate on weapons ownership. Perry took to her Twitter.com account after the tragedy to call on U.S. politicians to take action.

She writes, "Is anyone else really sad about the constant stream of shootings and how normal it's becoming to see these headlines on a weekly basis?

"Scared to go to school? Scared to go to the mall? Scared to go to the movies? Me too. When will there be actual change? How many more?!

"You and I both know this is getting embarrassing... My heart goes out to all the victims & their families this week. I pray for change."

Perry joins a long list of celebrities, including Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Sir Paul McCartney, Dustin Hoffman and Jamie Foxx who have thrown their support behind campaigns for stricter gun control legislation.
