George Clooney

George Clooney's upcoming film The Monuments Men has been pushed back in order to give the production team more time to perfect the film's visual effects.

Clooney co-wrote, directed and stars in the World War II drama, but now his latest pet project, which was due to open in the U.S. on 18 December (13), has been delayed until the first quarter of 2014.

The actor tells the Los Angeles Times that he realised the film wouldn't be ready for a winter release date when he arrived in London to work with Argo composer Alexandre Desplat on the score.

He explains, "We just didn't have enough time. If any of the effects looked cheesy, the whole movie would look cheesy. We simply don’t have enough people to work enough hours to finish it. All we've ever said, from the very beginning, is that we wanted to make a commercial, non-cynical piece of entertainment."

The Monuments Men, which also stars Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett and John Goodman, focuses on a group of art historians and curators who were picked by the U.S. government to retrieve pieces looted from European museums by Nazi troops.
