Sharon Jones returning to music after cancer battle
Singer Sharon Jones is set to return to the stage for the first time since her recent cancer battle after announcing a February (14) tour with her backing band The Dap-Kings.
Jones had to undergo chemotherapy in September (13) following an operation in June (13) to remove a tumour on a bile duct, but the soul star and her bandmates are ready to get back to their music and will release a new album, titled Give the People What They Want, in January (14), and will embark on a tour in February.
A statement from bandleader Bosco Mann, reads, "Without a doubt, this album is the greatest thing we've ever recorded and I've been anxious for the world to hear it. Everything will culminate in February at the Beacon (in New York)."
The album was originally set to hit stores in August with accompanying tour dates, but had to be shelved after Jones' diagnosis.
