Catherine Zeta-Jones: 'I'm thrilled Michael Douglas won an Emmy'
Catherine Zeta-Jones has broken her silence following her split from husband Michael Douglas to praise the veteran actor for his recent win at the Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Hollywood couple announced it was separating in August (13), but Douglas has continued to wear his wedding ring and has been downplaying the marriage trouble as a "temporary situation".
He even paid tribute to Zeta-Jones in his Emmy acceptance speech as he was honoured for his portrayal of Liberace in Behind the Candelabra on 22 September (13), telling the audience, "I want to thank my wife Catherine for her support."
The Welsh beauty was not by her estranged husband's side at the Los Angeles ceremony, instead choosing to attend a gala in China, where she reportedly remained to celebrate turning 44 last week (25Sep13) instead of honouring their tradition of spending their shared birthdays together.
However, she has now spoken out to congratulate Douglas on his career achievement, telling U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "I'm thrilled for him. It was wonderful - so well-deserved."
The couple wed in 2000.
