Susan Sarandon to be honoured for anti-hunger charity work
Actress Susan Sarandon is set to be feted for her help in the fight against hunger at a benefit in Los Angeles on Thursday (19Sep13).
The Thelma & Louise star will be the guest of honour at the Heifer International organisation event, where she will be recognised for her longrunning support and her efforts as an advocate for the company.
Country trio The Band Perry, which served as the face of firm's Outnumber Hunger Campaign last year (12), will perform at the gala and singer Kimberly Perry admits she has been inspired by Sarandon's philanthropy.
She tells RollingStone.com, "I think it's always amazing when someone like Susan uses the spotlight to put a spotlight on places that are in darkness. And the one thing that I've learned about her, even in relation to Heifer, is her real focus on empowering women. One of her big focuses through this organisation is that most of the women are the ones producing most of the food. And being the female of the Band Perry, I feel empowered by that myself, and for her to be a voice of that is one of the big reasons why we are supporting this event alongside her and Heifer."
