The producers of hit U.S. TV drama Homeland have axed plans to film in Israel due to concerns over the escalating civil war in Syria.

The cast and crew of the show were set to shoot several sequences for the upcoming third season in the Tel Aviv area, but due to Israel's proximity to the war-torn country, and the possibility of American military action, production will be heading to Morocco instead.

The decision comes as tensions rise across the Middle East, with Israelis rushing to buy gas masks amid fears of a U.S. strike on Syria following claims that President Bashar al-Assad's troops are using chemical weapons on civilians.

Homeland has previously shot in both Tel Aviv and Barta'a.
