Alfonso Ribeiro: 'LL Cool J and I fell out on miserable sitcom'
Former Fresh Prince Of Bel Air star Alfonso Ribeiro fell out with Ll Cool J on the set of their short-lived sitcom In The House because the rapper/actor was too busy with his music career to take the TV show seriously.
The ill-matched stars tried to work together on the show for four years in the late 1990s but Ribeiro finally had to ask to film scenes when his sidekick wasn't on set.
He tells Access Hollywood, "The show was not a fun time for me. LL Cool J and I have talked about it since then but the working environment on that show was horrible.
"(I was) coming from Fresh Prince, where everybody was about the show, about making the show better, our rehearsal process was all about making it great. In the House was exactly the opposite. It was like, 'I'm gonna collect a pay cheque, but my life is about everything else...'
"LL was about his music at the time. He was not focused on working hard as an actor... Coming back to do the last season, I basically was like, 'I don't wanna do the last season'. They convinced me to do it, but I said I will do it as long as I don't have to work with LL."
It took a James Cameron movie experience for LL Cool J to realise how miserable he was making his co-star.
Ribeiro adds, "He came to me and said, 'I wish I would have known then what I know now about working, about being here, being present and working as an actor...' He apologised for the work environment that we had and I'm so proud of him and I'm so happy for him that he has found that work ethic."
