Lady Gaga has taken aim at Russian leaders over their treatment of gay citizens just days after she was accused of breaking the country's immigration laws by a leading local politician.

The Born This Way hitmaker has been accused of accepting money for a gig in Saint Petersburg last year (12), after entering the country on a tourist visa, by senior politician Vitaly Milonov.

Milonov, a member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and a key supporter of the city's gay propaganda ban, has since requested that officials at the Prosecutor General's office investigate the singer's paperwork based on his suspicions.

Gaga, an active supporter of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, took aim at the Russian government's new anti-homosexuality laws in a series of fiery tweets on Monday (05Aug13), which began with her posting support to her LGBT fans in the country.

She wrote, "Sending bravery to LGBTs in Russia. The rise in government abuse is archaic. Hosing teenagers with pepper spray? Beatings? Mother Russia?... The Russian government is criminal. Oppression will be met with revolution. Russian LGBTs you are not alone. We will fight for your freedom."

The singer, who was also accused of illegally promoting homosexuality onstage during the performance in St. Petersburg last year, even taunted Russian authorities for not arresting her after the performance.

She added, "Why didn’t you arrest me when you had the chance, Russia? Because you didn’t want answer to the world."
