'Good Wife' Star Julianna Margulies Says Anthony Weiner Sex Scandal Will Influence Show
"The Good Wife" lead actress Julianna Margulies has described the Anthony Weiner sex scandal as "the gift that just keeps on giving," and she thinks the politician's story will influence the next series of her TV show.
Margulies plays a lawyer whose politician husband is jailed amid a sex and corruption scandal, and the actress admits she is fascinated by the case of New York City mayoral candidate Weiner.
In 2011, Weiner resigned from Congress after racy pictures emerged, during which he was forced to admit he had "exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature" with several women over the years.
Last week his political comeback was deflated when more X-rated images leaked online.
Margulies has been following Weiner's headline-grabbing antics, and believes she can see it influencing her TV series.
She told E! Online, "I would never want to benefit from someone else's pain but I have been emailing (our producers) for two weeks now. It is the gift that just keeps on giving. It is shocking that in our fifth season, this show is more relevant than ever."
Margulies does feel bad for Weiner's wife Huma Abedin, adding, "I feel like everyone is jumping to conclusions with Weiner's wife Huma. We don't know what's happening behind closed doors. If I have learned one thing from this character it is, 'Judge not, lest ye be judged.' You're not in her shoes. Huma has a one-year-old baby (sic). We don't know what her daily life is like. And we don't know what he's saying to her.
"We see him how he wants us to see him as a politician... But I don't know if he goes home at night and gets down on his knees and says, 'Help me deal with this problem.' It benefits our show, the writers just happen to tap into that on this show and I get to play her."
Will Weiner's story be reflected in upcoming plot lines? Margulies said, "I can't imagine it not."
