Kelly Clarkson's tears for ancestor on TV show
Singer Kelly Clarkson broke down in tears during an episode of U.S. genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? after discovering an ancestor served during America's Civil War.
The Stronger hitmaker delved into her family history for the series and was stunned to learn her three-times great-grandfather, Isaiah Rose, was a Union soldier, who was hailed a hero following the 1860s battles that divided the nation.
During the episode, which aired in the U.S. on Tuesday night (23Jul13), Clarkson discovered Rose became a state senator in Ohio after the war and risked his reputation to fight for the rights of the poor.
The singer became emotional during the revelation and cried as she declared, "I hope people know what they fought for mattered... I could not be more proud of this man."
Chatting with her mother, Clarkson added, "That's what I find amazing. We didn't know that we came from that. It's in our blood."
