Idris Elba owes acting career to Prince Charles
Actor Idris Elba has Charles, Prince Of Wales to thank for his Hollywood career because the British royal's grant-giving trust enabled him to follow his acting dreams as a teen.
The Wire star couldn't afford the fee to join the National Youth Music Theatre, so he applied for a Prince's Trust hand-out after he learned he had been accepted - and was given $3,100 (£2,000).
Elba has since become a Prince's Trust ambassador in Britain and he insists the heir to the throne is a great guy.
Appearing on U.S. TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday (09Jul13), the actor said, "He's the coolest (guy). He's smooth... He's got this ring, he's got the slicked-back hair, he looks like a gangster."
