Actor/director George Clooney is set to be feted for his career achievements by officials at the Los Angeles branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
The Descendants star will receive the prestigious Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film on 9 November, during the organisation's annual gala in Beverly Hills, California.
A statement released by BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman Gary Dartnall reads: "George Clooney is without question one of our industry's true icons. His work has captivated audiences from all corners of the globe, and BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to be celebrating his immeasurable contributions to our craft."
Clooney joins an elite group of award honorees - previous recipients include Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Daniel Day Lewis, Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg and Warren Beatty.
The accolade will give Clooney a new reason to smile following reports he has split from his girlfriend of two years, former wrestler Stacy Keibler.
