The Particle wins big at Moscow film festival
Turkish director Erdem Tepegoz's The Particle was the toast of the 2013 Moscow International Film Festival after taking home the event's top prize in Russia on Saturday (29Jun13).
The drama, about a woman who shares an abandoned apartment with her mother and disabled daughter, earned the best film trophy, the Golden St. George, as well as an acting nod for its lead star, actress Jale Arikan.
South Korean filmmaker Jung Young-heon landed the best director honour for his movie Lebanon Emotion, which centres on a man mourning the death of his mum, while Alexei Shevchenkov picked up a prize for best actor for his role in Judas.
Other winners included The Ravine of Goodbye, which received the jury's special prize, Elven Castle, which was named best short film, and Father and Son, which was crowned best documentary.
The accolades were distributed during the annual event's closing ceremony, which was followed by a screening of Gerard Depardieu's new movie Rasputin.
