Aerosmith, Carole King, New Kids On The Block and Jason Aldean were among the musicians who took to the stage in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday night (30May13) for a benefit show following the marathon bombing in the city.

Three people died and hundreds were injured in the atrocity on 15 April (13), and stars flocked to support the Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration event to raise money for the victims.

The show at the TD Garden arena kicked off with a performance by rockers Boston, who played the U.S. national anthem The Star-Spangled Banner.

Lead singer Tommy DeCarlo told the crowd, "Tonight, we are all Boston."

Local groups Extreme and J. Geils Band also took to the stage, as did New Kids On The Block, whose singer Joey McIntyre competed in the tragic race. He told the audience, "I finished at 3:57, just before it
happened. I happened to be on a bench in Copley Plaza, Copley Square (when the bombs went off) but I don't care where you were that day, because this happened to all of us."

His bandmate Donnie Wahlberg paid tribute to the resilience of locals following the bombing, declaring, "You deserve the credit. Anyone can celebrate in times of glory... but when something unspeakable happens, that's not just when cities come together but it is when families come together. We are not just one of the greatest cities on earth, we are one of the greatest families on this planet."

During their set, the band brought out Boyz II Men and delivered a touching performance of One Sweet Day.

The event took several sombre turns when survivors of the tragedy took to the stage.

Carole King, James Taylor and Aldean, a fan of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, also performed during the supergig, which was closed out by Aerosmith with a set which included Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way and
Livin’ On the Edge.

Steven Tyler's band teamed up with New Kids On The Block and a number of the concert's other performers to sing The Beatles' Come Together and Boston anthem Dirty Water for the show's big finale.

Proceeds from the gig will go towards The One Fund Boston, which was set up to help those affected by the bombings.
