A few weeks ago Starpulse posed the question: can American Idol survive without Simon Cowell? The general consensus was that it simply couldn't because he was the man everyone started out loving to hate but now just loves. But regardless of what the fans want, Cowell is poised to leave the series after this record ninth season comes to an end, moving on to focus on the American version of his other baby, "The X-Factor."
Earlier this week, Cowell weighed in on working with Ellen instead of Paula, who he'd like to see as a mentor before he goes, and who might be a viable candidate to fill...

HBO might be billing their new original series, How To Make It In America a comedy, but just like it's star Bryan Greenberg's last HBO show, Unscripted, there are elements that are much more melancholy than laugh out loud funny. Greenberg himself calls his new role of Ben Epstein, struggling graphic designer, "a very complicated guy, and he has a lot of demons."
When we first meet Ben, he has just broken up with a girl (Lake Bell) on whom he is still pretty hung up; he is working a dead-end job as a floor salesman at a department store; and he is in debt with a loan from a guy who just ...

When the news started to break last month at the TCA's that Simon Cowell would be leaving American Idol at the end of this season to focus on his sister project, The X Factor, it felt like just a bad joke. But when he pulled out a pen and signed a contract in front of reporters, the showrunners, and the network, things suddenly weren't so funny at all. With Idol's recent casting shakeups (Paula Abdul heading out and Ellen Degeneres coming in but not until Hollywood week), the show's once-stellar ratings seemed less-than secure as it was. Now add this piece of news on top of it, and reality ...

Matt Czuchry has spent a good deal of time on television dramas. Between Gilmore Girls for the WB-turned-CW and Friday Night Lights for NBC, he was a seasoned pro before winning the role of junior associate Cary Ago on CBS' The Good Wife. Though the show was announced to be getting a second season, Czuchry opened up to Starpulse about the possibility of Cary not returning and what else he could move on to. Gilmore Girls reunion movie, anyone??
Danielle Turchiano: In the pilot of The Good Wife, we learned that your character of Cary and Julianna's (Margulies) character of Alicia are in es...

Though midseason CW series Life Unexpected has been called the new Gilmore Girls, show creator Liz Tigelaar believes the demographic will be broader and will include the male audience as well. This must be due to her male leads, Kerr Smith and Kristoffer Polaha. Find out what these guys' guys had to say about each other, what it's like to play parent to a teenager when you're in your 30s, and why they think their show will be around for a while even after getting a late start.
Starpulse: What was it about the show - and specifically your role - that first attracted you to it?

These days writer and producer Liz Tigelaar is a very busy lady. In fact, with episodes of the new Melrose Place airing this fall, and a show of her own creation, Life Unexpected (but more on that in a minute), premiering on January 18th on The CW, she may be one of the most sought-after behind-the-scenes talents in Hollywood! Starpulse.com had a chance to steal a few minutes with Tigelaar to chat about the show, her stars, and how finally getting a (mid-season) air date has changed her show's arc and her own life, and why it might actually be better for her show that it didn't premiere in ...

It has been said that the American Idol process is much more grueling than other, more traditional ways of making it in the music industry. But then again, so many of those other ways include years of singing back-up or bussing tables to make one's own demo, and even still connections and marketability mean more than talent.
With American Idol, marketability is also very important, but what once might have been years of performing, rejection, rehearsing, revamping an image, rinsing and repeating is condensed into a thirteen week boot camp, if you will. In honor of the show's ninth seaso...

On Monday, CBS will air How I Met Your Mother's 100th episode (entitled "Girls Vs. Suits!") as their first new episode in 2010, back from the holiday hiatus. However, a select amount of lucky fans got to screen the episode early on January 7 at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.
Featuring an intimate question and answer panel with the stars and creators of the show, the event was full of festive fun for the musical episode that was a dream come true for at least one castmember: Neil Patrick Harris. Though most of the cast has had experience in musicals before (Alyson Hannigan w...

Day Twenty-Five: December 20, 2009 - Love Actually
"Love Actually" is a long one, as far as holiday movies go. Some would assume it is too long for a genre that is notoriously known for cheesy carols and over-the-top design. However, what is at the core here are some very sweet (and often intertwining) stories about young love. From the racy movie stand-ins who come together (no pun intended), bonding even in awkward situations, to the elementary aged boy who is convinced he has found his true love, to the...
