You know that old adage, "Don't judge a book by its cover?" Well, it's the best way to describe the new talented singer/songwriter Devonte Hynes and his creative work, under the moniker of Lightspeed Champion.
An independent artist, formerly a member of the band Test Icicles, Champion has just released his debut solo album Falling Off The Lavender Bridge. If you want a nice surprise, as opposed to today's regular chart-topping musical norm, you will get it from this artist and his new album.
Marked for his uniqueness, Champion effectively combines a mixture of multiple genres such as pop, classical, country, bluegrass, celtic, and theatrical to bring his catchy melodies to life. Tracks on the recording are marked by an unpredictability that keeps up momentum and interest, especially when it comes to instrumentation. For example, "Midnight Surprise," the second track on the album, progresses from pop to acoustic, to electric rock, and to 60's pop all in one track! There's not one disappointing song on this album.
Champion was born in America but is now based in the U.K., where he has amassed quite a following. "Falling Off From The Lavender Bridge" also features singer Emma "Emma The Great" Lee Moss, whose background vocals harmoniously compliments Champion's, providing a nice finishing touch to the overall production of his recorded work.
