Will Smith has lost his love for making blockbusters after his father-son feature After Earth flopped in theaters and received devastating reviews.

Smith said in an interview with Digital Spy that the nature of After Earth required it to be a blockbuster, but now Smith is ready to work on more "artistic" films. He says, "It's been an absolute necessity that the movie be a blockbuster, but I think I'm going to start moving out of that and finding more danger in my artistic choices."

Smith has appeared in blockbusters almost exclusively for over a decade, starring in films such as I, Robot, Hancock, and the Men in Black series.

Even with his direction changing, Smith assures fans he isn’t done making movies altogether. He adds, "There's something about making movies that just really gets me excited. I love people being wrapped in a story and being able to deliver that emotional punch line at the end of the story."

Smith is currently working on the big budget feature Winter’s Tale.
