With Hostess closing its doors, an American icon may be lost on the store shelves - but Twinkies will always live on thanks to loving references in pop culture. Here are a few that come to mind:
Family Guy: On the eve of Y2K, Family guy aired an episode featured around a possible future where missiles launched due to computer error. Peter Griffin, trying to survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland, falls back on the infamous urban legend that Twinkies last for dozens of years. Thus, he sets up a town around a Twinkie factory. The show would later feature Twinkie the Kid in an A&E Biography spoof.
Die Hard: Sergeant Al Powell is carrying an armload of the sweet treats ("They're for my wife!" He claims), soon before he gets the call that something bad is going down at Nakatomi Plaza. He later lists all of the ingredients to McClane.
Warning: Language and Violence
Zombieland: A majority of Tallahassee's existence is trying to find a box of Twinkies. He says despite popular belief, Twinkies have a shelf life and "Someday very soon, life's little Twinkie gauge is gonna go empty."
Ghostbusters: Egon tries to level with his fellow 'busters by explaining that psychokinetic energy building in New York is akin to a Twinkie being 35 feet long and weighing approximately 600 pounds.
