The Walking Dead

Expectations are high for Joss Whedon's SHIELD live-action superhero series. While animated series based on comics have flourished ever since Batman: The Animated series broke onto the scene in the early 90s, live-action shows based on comic books are hit-or-miss. They require a larger budget to showcase super powers and outlandish costumes and mutants. Despite this, we were able to point out the five best live action TV shows based on comics - and managed to cut down the worst to five.

The Best:

1. The Incredible Hulk: This TV took its comic book source seriously, and the show profited for it. Instead of a schlocky and silly series with Hulk smashing everything, The Incredible Hulk instead followed the journey of a man trying to outrun his destructive side. Each episode has David Banner trying to settle down in a new town - but you know the iconic hitchhiking sequence will occur by the episode's end, as Hulk will have to appear to destroy a menace and blow his alter-ego's cover.
